Mawana is a town in Meerut district in the Uttar Pradesh state of India. In the northeast side of town is Mawana Sugar works. Many famous people have also been born here. It has taken its name from the word "Muhana" means Gateway. It is supposed to be the Muhana of Hastinapur kingdom. Hastinapur is a Mahabharat period town situated nearby.[citation needed]

Along-time generational resident of Mawana, Jagdish Prakash Kaushik, was the first person to be honored with the title of Krishi Pandit by the Government of India for his outstanding contribution to the wheat produce.

One personality near of this town(Village Bhainsa) was Chaudhary Balwant Singh (Mahal wale)popularly known as Munshi Ji.[citation needed] Munsiji Ji was a famous freedom fighter of the Indian freedom movement. Mrs Indra Gandhi give him TAMPATRA and fredam fighter pansion.He was born in village Bhaishm Nagar aka Bhainsa of Mawana Tehsil.His nephew was the first Village Bhainsa Pardhan, Choudhary Ranvir Singh Who scrifice all for Village. He is till now popular Pardhan in the Village Bhainsa. He did so many work in his period in 1962 to 1964 all villgae road and gali was paaki in 1964 . Electricty come in the village 1964 .Every villager always remamber him.[citation needed] The main occupation of this town is the farming of sugarcane. It is also known for very famous Homoeopathic doctors, Dr. Suboor Ali Khan and his father Dr. R U khan. Dr. Suboor also practices at Bachcha park Meerut and quite famous in Meerut also.and from mawana many people are working in abroad and earn money so much.the student of mawana take the study in many reputed college of india.Dr.ikram ilahi is the first MBBS doctor in mawana who crash the cpmt exam in 2004, and now these days he give the service in reputed hospital in lucknow . shaheed chandrabhan was the first freedom fighter of mawana,who killed by britishian.His son thakur roomal singh was the another famous man in mawana.MOLANA NAFEES AHMAD SAHAB is the another famoush man of mawana,or we can say he the rahnuma of the muslim religion Mr.dr naresh chandra also a great personality of mawana he became the chairmen of mawana in one time and also the president of A.S.P.G college since last 15 year.In mawana a big ground near the tahsil where every year fair has been conducting in thememory of sha heed chandrabhan as the name shaheed chandrabhan pardasni.Mawana have a big tahsil in meerut district,mawana tahsil covers the area near the kithod tahsil.a very big cow house near the canel of mawana.Gole market is the famous market of the mawana in which 70 shops are there.Priya talkies is near the gole market.the famouse market of mawana are gole market , subhash bazar, dyanad bazar, munna bazar, near sabzi mandi market.JAMA MASJID is a big masjid in mawana whose conduct by Mulana Nafees Ahmad Sahab. Village kishanpur birana is famous for great folk singer gyanchand gurjar ji. He was first reputed singer of khari boli folk ragini. This village also own young poet pushpendra naagar.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[1] Mawana had a population of 69,199. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Mawana has an average literacy rate of 53%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 61%, and female literacy is 44%. In Mawana, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age. Mawana contains many casts, 51% muslims, 40% hindu and rest others, mawana is bazar for nearer about 50 villages, Gurjars, jats, dalit, baniya, jains, chauhan are casts which mainly found nearby. There are 3 cinema halls kapil, jagan, and priya but nowadays all they are closed. BAPU SAMOSE WALA,HARI BHAWAN,GAUTAM RABRI WALA, Raheja sweets are some party places. There are 10 petrol pumps, 4 degree college i.e. Gurjar college, jat college, A.s.p.g. College, L.d. College. Many c.b.s.e. And u.p. Boards schools like DIWARIKA PUBLIC SCHOOL , s.v.m, and a.s., m.p. Inter college, Mawana sugar pvt. Ltd. Is on of the most reputed sugar mills in india, sugarcane is the main crop here. Ganga the great river is just 10 kms. Away from here. Mela makhdumpur is famous for ganga snan, saifpur karamchandpur village is famous for being the birthplace of bhai dhram singh ji one of the panjpyare guruji in sikh religion. Pakka talab is also a mahabharatkalin pond. Mawana owns mahadev mandir and idgah which share one wall and show very good simble towards manifest. NH-119 joints meerut to mawana then mawana to bijnor.
