The Roman Catholic Diocese of Cheyenne (Latin: Dioecesis Cheyennensis) is a Roman Catholic diocese covering the state of Wyoming. It was founded on August 2, 1887 by Pope Leo XIII. Maurice Francis Burke was the first bishop. The see had been vacant from the July 2008 appointment of Bishop Ricken to the Diocese of Green Bay, Wisconsin until the October 19, 2009 announcement of the appointment of Bishop-elect Etienne.[1]
