Its municipal seat is located in the City of Umán.
Umán is located at 20°53′00″N 89°45′00″W / 20.8833333°N 89.75°W, just southwest of the state capital in Mérida, and is part of the Mérida metropolitan area. As of the census of 2005, the city of Umán had a population of 29,135 people,[3] the seventh-largest community in the state in population. The municipality of which the city serves as municipal seat had a population of 53,268,[3] living on an area of 234.3 km² (90.46 sq mi).[1] Its largest other community outside of the part of the metropolitan area of Merida that lies in the municipality of Umán is the town of Itzincab.
