Municipalities of Yucatan

Kanasín is one of the 106 municipalities located in the state of Yucatán in Mexico. It is in the west-central part of state and to the east of the municipality of Mérida, the state capital, and is a part of the Mérida metropolitan area.

As of the 2005 census the city of Kanasin, which is also the municipal seat had a population of 50,357 inhabitants^[3] (the second-largest^[3] community in the state of Yucatán), while the municipality had a population of 51,774.^[3] The third and forth largest communities in Yucatán are Vallaodolid and Tizimin, with populations of 45,868 and 44,151 respectively.^[3]

The municipality has an area of 72.81 km² (28 sq mi).^[1]

Architectural Landmarks

A church dedicated to San José, built in the seventeenth century and located in the former estate of Teya and Tecoh.^[1]
