- Merton Abbey railway station
-
Merton Abbey railway station was a railway station in Merton on the Tooting, Merton and Wimbledon Railway. It was opened in 1868, became part of the Southern Railway (SR) in 1923. It closed to passengers on 3 March 1929 and to goods on 1 May 1972, although goods trains continued to run to a nearby private siding serving the Lines Brothers ("Tri-ang") toy factory until 1975.
It was near Colliers Wood and South Wimbledon stations on the Northern Line. Competition from the tube was a cause of its closure. The line remained open for goods services until 1975. The site of the station lies under a road, the Merantun Way.[1]
