Uxbridge Vine Street railway station

Uxbridge Vine Street railway station

Uxbridge Vine Street station was the first of three railway stations in Uxbridge. It opened on 8 September 1856 as "Uxbridge Station", the northern terminus of the Great Western Railway Uxbridge branch line from the main line at West Drayton. The route of the line south from Uxbridge town centre ran adjacent to Whitehall Road and Cleveland Road.

The branch was constructed as a broad gauge single line, and was converted to standard gauge in October 1871. Double track was laid the following year.

In November 1885 the Staines West branch opened, which shared a short section of the Uxbridge branch to connect to the main line.

An intermediate station at Cowley opened in October 1904.

The branch closed to passengers on 8 September 1962 and to goods on 13 July 1964. After closure the track beyond the junction with the Staines West branch was lifted and Vine St station demolished - Cricket Field Road now covers its site.
