The town was named after C.W. Milestone (superintendent of the New Soo Line) in 1893. The town acts as a service centre for neighboring country side with the area's economy dominated by agriculture.[2]
Milestone Elementary has classes from Kindergarten to Grade 4 while the high school has class to Grader 12. Other facilities provided in the town include a public pool, campground, three churches (Milestone United Church, Milestone St. Aloysius Catholic Church, and Milestone Alliance Church), ice rink and various shops and services.[3]
