The 9th Nuestra Belleza México pageant, was held at the World Trade Center of Boca del Río, Veracruz, Mexico on September 6, 2002. Thirty-three contestants competed for the national title, which was won by Marisol González of Coahuila, who later competed in Miss Universe 2003. González was crowned by outgoing Nuestra Belleza México titleholder Ericka Cruz and Miss Universe 1953 Christiane Martel. She is the first and only Coahuilense to win the Nuestra Belleza México Title.

The Title of Nuestra Belleza Mundo México was won by Blanca Zumárraga of Puebla, who later competed in Miss World 2002. Zumárraga was crowned by outgoing Nuestra Belleza Mundo México titleholder Tatiana Rodríguez. She is the first Poblana to win the Nuestra Belleza Mundo México Title.

Erika Honstein of Sonora was selected by Lupita Jones to compete in Miss World 2003 because the following year 2003 the two queens compete in contests of 2004, becoming her Nuestra Belleza Mundo México 2002-2003. She is the first and only Sonorense to win the Nuestra Belleza Mundo México Title.

This year attended the Miss Universe 1953 Christiane Martel, which received a tribute at the event.

Historical Significance

  • For the first time the delegates made an opening singing a medley of the host State, it is recently.
  • This year eliminated the choice of Nuestra Belleza Mundo México in preliminary competition entitled Nuestra Belleza Mexico: Road to Miss World and to date in the final night two queens are chosen.
  • Coahuila won the Title of Nuestra Belleza México for the first time.
  • Puebla won the Title of Nuestra Belleza Mundo México for the first time.
  • This was the third time a Winner of Nuestra Belleza México is not the state that represents (Blanca Zumárraga was born in Córdoba, Veracruz).
  • For the first time Baja California Sur and Estado de México retires from competition.
  • Michoacán return to competition after three years (1999) and Quintana Roo after two years (2000).
  • Chihuahua placed for fifth consecutive year.
  • Sonora and Tamaulipas placed for fourth consecutive year.
  • Coahuila, Yucatán and Veracruz placed for third consecutive yaar.
  • Puebla and Tabasco returned to making calls to the semifinals after four years (1998), Morelos after three years (1999) and Querétaro after two years (2000).
  • States that were called to the semifinals last year and this year failed to qualify were Campeche, Distrito Federal, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Nuevo León and Sinaloa.
  • Distrito Federal and Nuevo León broke the streak came classifications obtained from the first competition in 1994, these being the states with more classifications in the final with eight.
  • This was the only time that Nuevo León did not qualify to the semifinals, this being the only State with more ratings in the history of the pageant.
