The 4th Nuestra Belleza México pageant, was held at the Centro Internacional Acapulco of Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico on September, 1997. Thirty-two contestants competed for the national title, which was won by Katty Fuentes of Nuevo León, who later competed in Miss Universe 1998. Fuentes was crowned by outgoing Nuestra Belleza México titleholder Rebeca Tamez. She is the first Nuevoleonesa to win the Nuestra Belleza México Title.

The Title of Nuestra Belleza Mundo México was won by Blanca Soto of Morelos, who later competed in Miss World 1997. Soto was crowned by outgoing Nuestra Belleza Mundo México titleholder Yessica Salazar. She is the first and only short hair and Morelense to win the Nuestra Belleza Mundo México Title.

For the second time took place the semi-final competition with a live show entitled "Nuestra Belleza Mexico: Road to Miss World" in which was announced the winner of the title of "Nuestra Belleza Mundo Mexico" and she represented his country in Miss World 1997.

Historical Significance

  • For the first time in the contest was held the parade of states at the beginning of the contest.
  • Nuevo León won the Title of Nuestra Belleza México for the first time.
  • Morelos won the Title of Nuestra Belleza Mundo México for the first time.
  • This was the second time a Winner of Nuestra Belleza México is not the state that represents (Blanca Soto was born in Monterrey, Nuevo León).
  • For second time in the semifinal competition is chosen Nuestra Belleza Mundo México through Nuestra Belleza México: Road to Miss World.
  • Distrito Federal, Jalisco, Nuevo León and Sinaloa placed for fourth consecutive year.
  • Nayarit placed for third consecutive year.
  • Durango and Tamaulipas were called to the semifinals for second time.
  • Campeche and Coahuila were called to the semifinals for the first time.
  • Aguascalientes, Baja California, Colima and Guanajuato returned to making calls to the semifinals after two years (1995).
  • Estado de México, Morelos and Tabasco returned to making calls to the semifinals after three years (1994).
  • States that were called to the semifinals last year and this year failed to qualify were Chiapas, Chihuahua, Oaxaca, Querétaro, Quintana Roo, Sonora, Veracruz, Yucatán and Zacatecas.
  • Raúl Velasco hosted this pageant for fourth time consecutive.
  • Nuevo León won Miss Photogenic and the Skin Hinds Award for the first time.
  • Aguacalientes won Mary Kay Face Award for the first time.
  • Morelos won the Skin Solar Hinds for the first time.
  • Distrito Federal' won the Best National Costume Award for the first time.
  • The host delegate, Carla Coral López of Guerrero, failed to place in the semifinals.

  • Distrito Federal - Felicidad Aveleyra won the Title of Reina de la Atlantida 1997 representing Mexico.
  • Estado de México - Elizabeth Jiménez competed in the Reinado Internacional de las Flores 1998.
  • Morelos - Blanca Soto was born in Monterrey, Nuevo León but she represented the State of Morelos in the National Contest. She won the right to represent Mexico in Miss World 1997 held at the Baie Lazare, Seychelles on November 22, 1997, but she didn't place. She participated in Miss Verano Viña del Mar 1998 in Chile where she won the 1st place. She has been married to American actor Jack Hartnett since 2007. She was Eva Gonzales in the telenovela of Univision called Eva Luna and will star in the telenovela of Univision called "Talisman" in 2011-2012.
  • Nuevo León - Katty Fuentes won Miss Clairol Style Award and the third placement in the National Costume Competition in Miss Universe 1998 held at Stan Sheriff Arena, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA on May 12, 1998 but she didn't place to the semifinals. Actually she lives in Dallas, Texas.
  • Tabasco - Karla Corral represented Mexico in Reinado Internacional del Café 1998 held in Manizales, Colombia.
