History
Muscatine County was established in 1837 and Bloomington, as Muscatine was then called, was named the county seat.[2] The first courthouse was built in 1840 of brick. It was constructed for $15,000.[2] It was destroyed by fire and a second courthouse was built in 1867 for $29,000.[2] The two-story building featured a dome and a statue of the goddess of justice.
The present court house was built beginning in 1907 in the same location as the previous courthouse. It was built in the Beaux Arts style.[1]
