Cool Valley is located at 38°43′38″N 90°18′22″W / 38.72722°N 90.30611°W (38.727150, -90.306109)[4].
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.5 square miles (1.3 km2), all of it land.
Demographics
As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,081 people, 402 households, and 272 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,244.1 people per square mile (869.5/km²). There were 432 housing units at an average density of 896.8 per square mile (347.5/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 21.83% White, 76.13% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.28% from other races, and 1.57% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.37% of the population.
There were 402 households out of which 30.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.6% were married couples living together, 24.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.1% were non-families. 25.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.69 and the average family size was 3.26.
In the city the population was spread out with 27.8% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 25.3% from 45 to 64, and 10.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 84.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 75.9 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $42,727, and the median income for a family was $47,250. Males had a median income of $35,893 versus $23,500 for females. The per capita income for the city was $20,847. About 10.1% of families and 10.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 12.9% of those under age 18 and 18.2% of those age 65 or over.
Economy
Express Scripts has its headquarters in Cool Valley.[5] In 2007 Express Scripts opened its new world headquarters on the grounds of the University of Missouri–St. Louis. The new building houses nearly 1,200 employees.[citation needed]
Education
Ferguson-Florissant School District serves the city. Cool Valley Elementary School is in Cool Valley.[6]
