Rock Hill is a city in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 4,765 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Rock Hill is located at coor dms|38|36|33|N|90|22|1|W|city (38.609052, -90.367046)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.1 square miles (2.8 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 4,765 people, 2,048 households, and 1,296 families residing in the city. The population density was 4,370.0 people per square mile (1,687.9/km²). There were 2,126 housing units at an average density of 1,949.8/sq mi (753.1/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 68.10% White, 27.37% African American, 0.17% Native American, 1.97% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.21% from other races, and 2.16% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.28% of the population.

There were 2,048 households out of which 26.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.4% were married couples living together, 13.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.7% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.98.

In the city the population was spread out with 22.4% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 33.6% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 89.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.4 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $47,869, and the median income for a family was $58,300. Males had a median income of $41,776 versus $31,859 for females. The per capita income for the city was $25,803. About 4.2% of families and 5.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 7.0% of those under age 18 and 5.9% of those age 65 or over.
