Mong Kok East Station Traditional Chinese 旺角東 Simplified Chinese 旺角东 Literal meaning Flourishing Corner East Transcriptions Mandarin - Hanyu Pinyin Wàngjiǎodōng Cantonese (Yue) - Jyutping wong6 gok3 dung1 - Yale Romanization wong6 gok3 dung1 Mong Kok East Station is a station on Hong Kong's East Rail Line. Only out-of-system interchange is available with Kwun Tong Line and Tsuen Wan Line at Mong Kok Station via a footbridge. The station opened in 1910 as Yaumati Station (different from MTR Yau Ma Tei Station), and a new building was built in 1968 to replace the 1910 building. The location of the station was exactly the same as today's Mong Kok East Station.
The station was named Mong Kok Station (same name with the current MTR Mong Kok Station) before the takeover of KCR operations by the MTR Corporation on 2 December 2007.
Although the station is in the same region and quite close to Mong Kok Station, the fare are quite different each other. An extra fare of $0.8 minimum is charged on passengers using Mong Kok Station instead, from stations of East Rail Line north of Kowloon Tong, and for the reverse direction, about $3 will be charged for passengers coming from Tung Chung or Disneyland Resort.
