East Tsim Sha Tsui Station (尖東站) is an MTR station which serves as the southern terminus of the HK-MTR lines|East Rail. It is the fourth newest station (behind Sunny Bay, Disneyland Resort, Lok Ma Chau) on the MTR system. It opened on 24 October 2004, symbolising the return of the East Rail Line to Tsim Sha Tsui after 30 years. The project was known as the "East Rail Tsim Sha Tsui Extension". The line was extended from Hung Hom, the previous terminus, to Signal Hill, where the new station is located, through a tunnel beneath Salisbury Road. This is the only underground station on the HK-MTR lines|East Rail.

The station was built to alleviate surface traffic jams and passenger congestion at Kowloon Tong Station. The distance from Hung Hom to the station is about one kilometre with the journey time of less than two minutes. However, the fares are unusually high (e.g., from Sha Tin, the fare to Hung Hom is only HK$4.90, but the fare to the East Tsim Sha Tsui station is HK$7.40, pre-merger $5.10 and $7.60 respectively).

The current status of East Tsim Sha Tsui Station as a terminus station is only temporary. When the HK-MTR lines|West Rail is extended through the Kowloon Southern Link, the terminus of the East Rail Line will be relocated back to Hung Hom, with East Tsim Sha Tsui becoming an intermediate station on the West Rail Line.

Due to inadequacy of space on display screens, the full name "East Tsim Sha Tsui" is not shown on platform information displays nor on trains heading to the station. Instead, the abbreviations, "E. TST" and "E. Tsimshatsui", are used respectively.

This station is linked with Tsim Sha Tsui Station of the HK-MTR lines|Tsuen Wan.

tation layout

Passengers heading towards the Tsuen Wan Line should ride the escalator up to the concourse, and leave the East Rail Line system. Then they have to walk along the Middle Road or Mody Road subway system respectively to reach Tsim Sha Tsui station at exit L2 and M3 respectively.

Entrances/exits

East Tsim Sha Tsui Station is linked with Tsim Sha Tsui Station through the Mody Road and Middle Road Subways. When both stations' exits are combined, the total number of exits outnumber even that of Central. East Tsim Sha Tsui Station has the exit with the highest letter of all rail stations in Hong Kong.
