It is, along with the District of Columbia Army National Guard, an element of the District of Columbia National Guard.

Mission
Operated by the District of Columbia Air National Guard, the 113th Wing is unique among the United States Air National Guard. Known as the 'Capital Guardians', the wing provides air sovereignty forces to defend the U.S. Capital, and also provides fighter, airlift and support forces capable of local, national and global employment. Because Washington, D.C. lacks an Air Force installation with a runway, DC Air National Guard units are stationed at nearby Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.

The 231st Combat Communications Squadron was deactivated on 30 March 2008 with its missions assumed by units of the DC Army National Guard.See also
