History
Mülchi is first mentioned in 1302 as Mulnhein.[3]
Geography
Mülchi has an area of 3.8 km2 (1.5 sq mi). Of this area, 76.7% is used for agricultural purposes, while 17.8% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 4.7% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (0.8%) is non-productive (rivers or glaciers).[4]
The village is located in the Limpach River Valley on the border of the Canton of Solothurn.
Demographics
Mülchi has a population (as of 31 December 2010) of 230.[1] As of 2007[update], 4.3% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 3.3%. Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks German (95.9%), with Italian being second most common (1.6%) and French being third (1.2%).
In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 78.1% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SPS (5.4%), the FDP (4.5%) and the Green Party (3.7%).
The age distribution of the population (as of 2000[update]) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 25.7% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 61.2% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 13.1%. In Mülchi about 73.6% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).
Mülchi has an unemployment rate of 0.24%. As of 2005[update], there were 56 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 19 businesses involved in this sector. 4 people are employed in the secondary sector with 1 business in this sector. 4 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 3 businesses in this sector.[4]
