History
Münchringen is first mentioned around 1261-63 as Munderchingen.[3]
Geography
Münchringen has an area of 2.4 km2 (0.93 sq mi). Of this area, 78.7% is used for agricultural purposes, while 10% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 10% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (1.3%) is non-productive (rivers or glaciers).[4]
The municipality is located in the Urtenen valley. It includes the village of Münchringen and the hamlet of Holzmühle.
Demographics
Münchringen has a population (as of 31 December 2010) of 588.[1] As of 2007[update], 1.2% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 5.4%. Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks German (96.2%), with French being second most common ( 0.8%) and Rhaeto-romance being third ( 0.8%).
In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 31% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SPS (19.9%), the FDP (17.5%) and the Green Party (11.1%).
The age distribution of the population (as of 2000[update]) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 23.8% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 66.6% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 9.6%. In Münchringen about 85.5% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).
Münchringen has an unemployment rate of 1.94%. As of 2005[update], there were 31 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 9 businesses involved in this sector. 17 people are employed in the secondary sector and there are 6 businesses in this sector. 24 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 8 businesses in this sector.[4]
