Points of interest Within the Park
Malabar Farm Inn
Malabar Farm Inn, is a historic Stagecoach Inn, built in 1820. Today, the two-story brick building has been restored as a restaurant, offering fine French cuisine and home-cooked dining. Just to the east of the restaurant, lies Malabar Spring. Seasonally, visitors can purchase fresh, local produce; which is cooled by flowing spring water. Louis Bromfield, himself, designed the spring-cooled roadside stand, in 1946.[2]
Pugh Cabin
This authentic, rustic log-cabin style home was built in the 1940's by Bromfield's neighbor, Jim Pugh. [3]More recently, the cabin was used to film a few opening scenes in the movie The Shawshank Redemption.
The Ceely Rose House
The miller's house, mentioned in the collection of ghost stories, Pleasant Valley. Home to the young, mentally challenged girl, Ceely Rose, who murdered her family by mixing arsenic into their food.[4] The Ceely Rose Play, set in the fateful year of 1896, is performed in October as part of a trilogy, in the park's timber frame barn.
