It is the sister network of Telemundo and was mostly digital television subchannels launched in 2001. The programming of mun2 is primarily music videos and shows designed for young Latino viewers. Unlike Telemundo, a large segment of mun2's programming is in English.
In its early form, the channel was called GEMS Television, and was known as the Latino version of Lifetime. Telemundo acquired mun2 and began to program it with a bilingual slant featuring programs from its former owners Sony Pictures Entertainment including Spanish language versions of Charlie's Angels and The Dating Game. From midnight to 2 pm, the channel would air programs from Home Shopping Network's Spanish language network HSE (Home Shopping Español).
The channel was rebranded mun2 and its programming changed to attract both the Latino and English-language markets. Original programming as well as advertising would feature Spanish and English spoken interchangeably, reflecting the channel's young, bilingual audience. Among the shows that air on the network are a dual rebroadcast of the USA Network's RAW program – with some portions censored, as they are on USA. ECW was broadcast on mun2 but was cancelled and replaced with NXT (which has since been replaced by Smackdown).
mun2 relocated its hub from the Telemundo studios in Hialeah, Florida to a state of the art studio inside Universal CityWalk in Universal City, California.
In 2007, mun2 (along with Telemundo) relocated technical operations to the CNBC Global Headquarters building in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, which serves as master control for most of NBCU's cable networks.
