Orestias

Orestias was a small ancient Greek settlement[citation needed] founded next to the Maritsa (or Evros) river, which now forms the modern border between Turkey and Greece. Orestias was located in present day Turkey[citation needed], near Edirne, across the Maritsa river from the Greek town of Kastanies.

Legends claim that Orestias was founded by Orestes, the son of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra.

Orestiada (or Nea Orestias or New Orestiada) is a modern Greek town founded on a separate site in 1922 to house displaced Greeks after population exchanges with Turkey.
