Several buildings in the historic district are also individually listed on the National Register, including the Norwich Town Hall, the Telephone Exchange Building and the Carroll Building.
Norwich's downtown grew up near the confluence of the Shetucket, Yantic, and Thames Rivers and the city's harbor, which was once a major center for trade and commerce. The area includes many intact 18th-century buildings centered around the now-picturesque harbor.[2]
