Nash, who was an "American Revolutionary War hero and general who was killed at the Battle of Germantown in 1777, had built the house in 1772. William Hooper, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, purchased the home in 1782 and lived there until his death in 1790.[3]
It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1971.[2][3]
