'Nowgawan Sadat' is a town and a nagar panchayat in Jyotiba Phule Nagar district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[1] Nowgawan Sadat had a population of 27,075. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Nowgawan Sadat has an average literacy rate of 84%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 91%, and female literacy is 51%. In Nowgawan Sadat, 18% of the population is under 6 years of age. Almost 95% of the population here consists of Shia Muslims of which mostly are Syed and they are Abdi, Zaidi, Naqvi etc. All the Abdi families are the children of Maulana Fakhruddin & Maulana Jalauddin who were the sons of Mohammad Imam Delhvi. It is 13 km from City/Distt. Amroha and 150 km from Delhi. It is connected by railway station at Amroha and State Road from Amroha to Bijnore. It is 20 km from Chandpur Rly Stn (Bijnore Distt). The people are mainly Urdu speaking. The main occupations of Syeds are farming, Mango Cultivation. Besides most people are in private sector service in all over India and Gulf. Many of the families of Nawgavan Sadat have migrated to different part of the world like Pakistan, US, UK, Germany etc.

The people settled on the Bijnore Road are Ansaris (having Sunni faith). Their occupation is weaving, handlooms. They are cloth merchants and manufacturers. This area is called Nai Basti.

There are many farms of sugarcane and mangoes. Mangoes such as Kattha, Langda, Fajri, Dasehri, Qalmi.

In winter Gaajar Ka Halwa (carrot sweet) is vary famous and delicious dish. In most of the dawat famous dishes served are pulao (rice & meat), naan gosh (bread roti with meat soup).

There is no musical band in the wedding ceremonies following Islamic laws. It is conducted in a very simple manner. Most of the marriages are in inter-relations. Islamic Shia culture prevails in every field.

The Names of Mohalla: Imam Husain Chowk (Chungi), Mangal Bazar (Tuesday Market of Animals), Teli Mohalla, Daulat Shaheed, Badi Imli, Panyahri Talab, Fakharpura, Katkoi, Shah Fareed, Munia ki Gali, Nanhi Baugh, Main Bazar, Chah Vazir Ali, Budh Bazar (Wednesday General Market), Takia, Goola Talab, Tamkhere, Bagheechi, Mohalla Nawab, Imambada Noor, Hafta Bazar/Thavar ka Bazar (Saturday Mkt), Pukhta Bangla, Bangla, Mohalla Shahe Najaf, Hatawala (Moh.Kaazman), Bakriwala, Belka Talab, Karbala Road, Ali Nagar, Abu Talib Nagar, Nai Basti, Bilni, Nahar etc. Khataiki is a talao near Govt. Hospital.

Recently Govt. Hospital is being established next to Mangal Bazar with the efforts and the land was donated by Mr. Syed Zainul Ibad s/o Maulana 'Natiq'(Engineer, PWD Govt Servant), Late Munawwar Raza s/o Hasan Raza (Vice Chairmain), Mr. Syed Ghazanfar.

. They are from the generation of fourth Imam Zainul Abedin (as) i.e. Abdi. Others are Zaidi, Naqvi etc. They have the Shajra (Family Tree) from the generation of Mohammad's daughter. That is why it is known as Sadat. The Shajra or the Genealogy of Sadat people, compiled by Maulana Ansar Husain Sajid Sahab in 1964 A.D. The Shajra has now been updated and recompiled by Syed Shoeb Raza Abdi s/o Tahir Raza in Bandra, Bombay (India)(E:shoebrz&yahoo.co.in)(09322187098) with the help of the same author and collection of the latest data by Syed Tanveerul Hasan Abdi in Delhi. Compilation of Shajrah in Urdu is nearly completed with the verifications of the people in Naugawan Sadat. Those who have not given their names may send it now.

There is very famous and respected family named as SHARMA's familiy since old age as their contribution for making educated of local people is highly appreciated by every boby in the town. Head of family was Late Pt. Ram Gopal Sharma having six sons, Eldest son was the Principal of Lucknow Polytechnic,Lucknow . Two sons are Doctors, one Advocate, Govt . Employee in Water Divion Amroha and one having its own business (Sweets: Specially Milk Cake and Lassi in Summer). Sharma family house located in Moh. Bazar along with famous Hindu Temple :only temple in the town. The only family among majority of Muslims population is the example of Peace and Brotherhood for rest of the world .

Naugawan Sadat

Naugawan Khurd came into existence in 948 A.H. (according to Abjad its total no. is same)(1541 AD) by Maulana syed Fakhruddin s/o Maulana Mohammad Imam buried in Delhi, the Sajjad Nashin of Hazrat Nizamudin Aulia. According to Qari Sahab it came into existence in 820 A.H. (1417 AD) as Naugawan Kalan. To the north of it was Vazirabad (Present Name: Amroha). Maulana Fakhrudin and Maulana Jalaludin, the two sons of Maulana Mohd Imam, came here as a preacher of Islam and were successful in it. Their sons inhabited here and spread in thousands till date. Many of them migrate to different parts of the world.

Spiritual Leaders of Naugawan Sadat

There are many great spirituals in Naugawan Sadat they are doing work in the field of spirituality and trying to explain the spirit of Islam and comparative study of religions. Late Maulana Sibtay Nabi, who was the dean of theology faculty in A.M.U., Late Maulana Firoz Haider world famous zakir, Late Maulana Muzaffar a great teacher in Babul ilm, Maulana Mohammad Hussain Mahzar, Late Maulana Salaman Hyder, Late Maulana Mohammad Mujtaba, Maulana Sibtey Mohammad, was great Muslim scholars. Maulana Hasan Imam (Pesh Imam in Hong Kong), Maulana Ali Akhtar Abdi (Vashi, Bombay), Maulana Vazir Hasan. Maulana Hasan Akhtar etc. Maulana Naeem Abbas is a famous speaker and principal of Jamiatul Muntazar. Allama Syed Habeeb Hyder Abidi is the son of Late Maulana Syed firoz Haider and is a learned Scholar and Orator. Maulana Firoz Hyder was the famous orator, reciter of Majlis. He gave speeches in every part of the world. He has his huge supporters in USA, UAE, India, Pakistan, Canada, Arab, Africa, Europe, England and many more. He is known to be one of the best speakers of Urdu language in Indian history of Oratory.He was very much educated and his speeches are full of knowledge. He did many social works for example he established Fatema girls inter college in Naugawan Sadat specially for girls and Sakina Public School. He died in 2002 while coming to India from Germany.

Late Maulana Jawad Asghar 'Natiq' was the renowned scholar of the era. He was the great Aalim, faqih, teacher of Babul Ilm Inter College, Shahfreed. He was the great poet and ustadus Shu'ra (teacher of many poets). His said sher (poems) in Urdu, Arabic & Persian. He said many Nauhas, Qaseeda, Naat-o-Manqabat. He died at the age of 85.

Religious scholars

Besides Qibla Maulana Syed Sibte Nabi Saheb, there have been other distinguished scholars & religious personalities like Moulana Syed Abul Hashim Abidi (Marhoom) was a Shia Aalim, scholar and Zakir. Late Abul Hashim also blessed with three great Aalim sons Allama Syed Masood Abidi Najafi, Moulana Mehboob Mehdi Abidi (Imaam Juma Of Chicago, Illinois, USA), Moulana Matloob Mehdi Najafi. All are Masahllah very Gret Aalim in their respective field. Allama Javed Abid and Allama Syed Habeeb Haider Abdi are also world famous zakirs.[citation needed]

Great personalities

Maulana Sibte Nabi Saheb Qibla who was Dean Faculty of Theology at AMU can be called the Sir Syed of Nowgawan Sadat. He established a school named as Babul Ilm where many students of the community took initial education and gradually moved to higher positions. One best example of this school can be mentioned here as Maulana Firoz Haider who rocked the whole word by his marvelous speeches. The other best example is Prof. (Dr.) Madad Ali MD who created a record in the selection of MBBS from AIIMS New Delhi and later he shifted to USA for his further higher studies. He is the only person from Nowgawan who has done his MBBS from All India Institute Of Medical Sciences New Delhi. Presently he is one of the best gastroetontologist of the world. Mr. Shahe Alam is the only person in the history of nawgawan sadat who had done Bsc.Engg. from IIT and MBA from IIM There happened some other medical doctors also e.g. Dr. Mansoor Haider (Australia) Dr. Syed Haider, Dr. Syed Nasir Hussain, Dr. Sakhaul Hasnain (Late) Dr. Nisar Haider, Dr. Shaida Raza, Dr. Mohammad Abbas, Dr. Ali Yawar Abidi etc. There some other personalities in the field of education for example Dr. Amir Haider Abidi who is the Dean of Faculty of Library Studies in UGANDA, Prof Mehsher Raza who is serving as the Chairmen Dept. of Geology Faculty of Science AMU, Prof S. Mohd Abbas Abidi who is teaching in the department of Zoology, AMU Aligrh. Dr. Mohd Abbas (PhD) who is working as Documentation Officer, Jamia Millia Islamia New Delhi. His book on "Conflict Management among library professionals" has been published by reputed publisher. Mr. Aslam Mehdi who has done MA, M.Lib.Sc. besides specialization in Online Health Information from USA. Presently he is working as librarian at J.N Medical College AMU. He has compiled book Bibliography of Thesis of Medical Students which has been published by the university. There are also some persons who are supposed to help the needy are helping in daylight but some helps in the darkness of night. Religious institutions

In Naugawan Sadat there are three religious institutions. These institutions are busy in the service of Islam and nation. In these institutions hundreds of students are living and try to know about the spirit of Islam.

  • Jamia Babul Ilm (Founder: Late Maulana Syed Sibtey Nabi Abdi, at Mohalla: Shahfreed)
  • Jamia Alia Jafaria (Founder: Late Maulana Mohammad Mujtaba Abdi which was earlier at Mohalla Bangla then shifted to Belka Talab Karbala Road) and is now at Budh Bazar (Abu Talib Nagar). Principal: Maulana Zille Mujtaba
  • Jamiatul Muntazar (Founder: Late Maulana Syed Salman Hyder Abdi, at Karbala road), Maulana Naim Abbas (Principal) and Maulana Quratul-Ain Mujtaba managing all activities.

Anjumans

There are four main Matami Anjumans in Naugawan Sadat. They are

  • Anjuman-e-Abdiya, Nauha Khwan: Chhajia Bachhiya, Shayer
  • Anjuman-e-Yadgare Husain: Nauha Khwan: Syed Shoeb Raza, Syed Taqi, Syed Ayaz, Syed Marghoob Hyder, Syed Shameem Hyder. Shayr: Syed Riyaz Hashim 'Riyaz'
  • Anjuman-e-Hyderi, Nauha Khwan: Syed Dilawar Abbas (Chand Suraj, Shyre: Syed Musawwir
  • Anjuman-e-Sogwar. Sec: Syed Hyder Mahdi. Shayr: Syed Riyaz Hashim 'Riyaz'. Nauha Khwan Syed Aftab Hyder Abdi.

There are other welfare Anjumans. One of these is Anjuman-e-Moinul Momenin. It is in the same line of Anjuman-e-Wazeefa Sadat of Lucknow. It was founded by Maulana Syed Ansar Husain 'Sajid'. Its purpose is to help the needy Sadat of Nawgavan Sadat in education, upliftment of poor families financially. It helps students for higher studies by the cooperation of donors.

Mourning of Muharram

Muharram which is observed in Nowgawan Sadat is famous worldwide. Besides Majlis of gentlemen and ladies there are Matami Juloos (Sad Processions) with recitation of Nauhas (sad poems) and flogging with chains. For this purpose there are four Anjumans (orgs) viz. as noted above. The program is such: Juloos starts & end as follows: 1st Muharram: Anjuma-e-Yadgar, ---- 2nd Muharram: Anjuman-e-Abdiya, Imambada Hatily Gulatalab, 3rd Muharram: Anjuman-i-Hyderi, Hinghawali Masjid, 4th Muharram: Anjuman-e-Yadgar, Imambada Zaidiyan, 5th Muharram: Anjuman-e-Abdiya & Anjuman-e-Sogwar, Imambada Daulat Shaheed, 6th Muharram: Anjuman-i-Hyderi, Imambada Pukhta Bangla, 7th Muraharram: Anjuma-e-Yadgar, Double Ghasht, Muhalla Fakharpura (Master Mansoor Home & Imambada Shakir Husain (Nawab), Juloos-e-Mahdi is organised by Anjuma-e-Sogwar, the other Juloos is by Yadgar. 8th Muharram: Anjuman-e-Abdiya, Imambada Katkoi, 9th Muharram: Anjuman-i-Hyderi, Imambada Noor. After the end of Juloos they distribute maily Roti (hand made bread). And on 10th Muharram ther is combined Juloos of All Anjumans. Ahead of them is Alam, Zuljana, Taboot with people reciting Mersiya. 10th Muharram Special attraction is Tallest Tazia which move ahead of Juloos from Hafta Bazaar via Shahfreed back to same place. There other Tazias also comes from various places such as Bilna, Bilni, Budh etc. Route: Each day Juloos start from different Imambara and end at same starting point. e.g. Start from Imambara Daulat Shaheed on 5th Muharram -> Badi Imli->Katkoi->Madarsa Shah Freed->Bazar->Budh Bazar->Goola Talab->Hata wala-> Hafta Bazar->Imambara Pukhta Bangla-> Imambara Daulat Shaheed. On 9th Muharram there Matam on Fire (Aag ke Maatam)at Mohalla Bangal by Anjuma-e-Hyderi.

Important Events

Ashraa Majaalis (10 Majlis) is being organised at Imambada Haji Mohd Baqar recited by Maulana invited from outside. The last Majlis is followed by Taboot and Juloos on the occasion of Shahadat of Janabe Muslim bin Aqeel. Nauhakhwani & Matam by Anjuma-e-Hyderi.

On 12th Muharram, there is Shabb-e-Dari (Matam whole night) at Imambara at Bazar. On 25th Muharram has also big Juloos in which 13 Anjuman paticipate from outside. More detail will follow next.

There are Majlis on every occasion of Shahadat of Masoomeen (as) and Juloos.

A Grand Mahfil/Function is held on 16th Shabaan to mark the birthday of the present Imam; Imam Mahdi (as). It is organised by Janab Shuhrat Sahab. Many well-known Shura (poets) are invited to this Mahfil. Shabe Barat is celebrated with great enthusiasm with crackers, lights and special sweets.

Ghadeer Function is held by Bazme Ghadeer Committee in which there are shorts speeches by children representing different schools & Madarsa of Naugawan Sadat.

Ramzan is celebrated with people fasting Roza and worshing for whole month. There are many Quran Qirat competitions with awards by differernt organizations.

Karbala

Karbala of Naugawan Sadat is not only a very popular Shabeeh-e-Roza in Naugawan Sadat but also in the nearby areas. It is located in the western part of Naugawan Sadat. This Roza is very large and marvellous in its design and architecture.

Whole of its architecture is very classic and is made up of Indo-Mughalian style of architecture.

it was built using soil brought from "Karbala", Iraq about two hundred years ago. Roza-e-Hazrat Abbas (A.S.) was built using the same soil.

Karbala Naugawan Sadat is spread in an area of approximately six thousand square feet.

Inside Karbala Naugawan Sadat, one can see Roza-e-Hazrat Abbas (A.S.), Ganje Shaheedan-e-Karbala (A.S.), Hujra Janab-e-Syeda (A.S.), and "Ghaar"(cave) of Imam-e-Zamana(A.S.).

Mango trees have been implanted inside the boundary of Karbala Naugawan Sadat.

Poets

There has had been many famous Shu'ra (Poets) in Nowgavan Sadat. For example specially Late Syed Naseem Haider "Naseem Nowgawani"Syed Riyaz Hashim 'Riyaz', Janab Late Syed Mukhtar Husain Saheb "Wafa Nowgawin", his books were published as Payam-e-Wafa and Paigham-e-Wafa.His Nohas were recited in Moharram in Nowgawan and all over India. Hakim Ghulam Mehdi 'Raz', Maulana Ansar Husain 'Sajid'. (Students of Maulana Jawwad Asghar 'Natiq'), Muharram Ali 'Shohrat', Gauhar Nawgavi, Qaisar Aqeel, Taqi Abdi, Shoeb Raza, Tahir Raza, Qamar, Raqim, Nihal, Musavvvir, Abid, Akhtar, Vazir Abbas, Shah Alam abdi,Khurram Zaidi, Asghar Abbas Zaidi, Hakim Jawad Husain 'Samar' etc.

Maulana Sajid also has published booklets of his Kalam.

Book of Kalam of Syed Riyaz Hashim 'Riyaz' is published with name as 'Riyaz-e-Shukhan'by his son Syed Masood Akhtar (Delhi). Eerlier many books of Nauha are also publish. The latest on is the whole collection of his previously printed booklets.

On 13 March 2010, the 1st Book of Collection of Kalam of Late Maulana Jawwad Asghar 'Natiq' is published with the name: 'Zamzam-e-Kun-Fayakoon' by his sons Syed Zainul Ibad & Noorul Ibad in Naugawan Sadat. His wife dead on 13 Sep 2010 at the age of about 100. She was a great worshipper.

Media

There are many talented professionals in different fields from Nowgawan Sadat. As Malike Ashter who is a noted journalist, doing work as journalist in Radio Tehran, Mr Malike Ashter is also a scholar in AJK Mass Communication Research Center of Jamia Millia Islamia Delhi. He did his graduation in media from Jamia Millia Islamia, Ashter Sahab made many programs on various social issues for Radio Jamia FM 90.4 like on prostitution, Ghalib and other topics. Ms. Shahba Khatoon is also a well-known media personality, she is joint with a leading newspaper. Janab Paighamber Abbas is connected to the leading Shia Newspaper Sahafat.
