Contents

Major Stores

In addition to over 50 specialty stores, MarketTown Leichhardt has several major outlets.

The Center also houses a small food court, including a Sandwich Shop, Kebab shop, and a Sushi store, however there are no major fast food brands currently operating.

During the School Holiday period, MarketTown provides Children's entertainment on the lower ground in a small auditorium located out the front of the Target store.[1]

Sustainability

MarketPlace has also implemented several new way to bring about the use of sustainable energy within the center. These include[2]:

  • Installation of Solar Panels to supply the restrooms.
  • Upgrade all mall lighting to energy efficiant globes, marketing ways to assist in reduced power, energy and water costs.
  • Requiring all new retailers store fitouts to comply with best practice standards for recycling, lighting, power, water and waste management.

The center also advertises ways consumers and shoppers can minimize their waste, and cut down on packaging, for example, encouraging shoppers to bring their own bags, instead of using plastic bags provided by the major supermarkets.[3]

In 2010, MarketPlace introduced a recycling scheme that allowed shoppers to recycle their plastic bottles and Aluminum cans in a reverse-vending machine.[4] The Center currently operates one of these machines.

Transport

MarketPlace Leichhardt has underground and above ground parking facilities, with roughly 500 parking spaces located underneath the mall. Another 100 or so are located above the mall, on the roof. As of 2011 Parking is currently free.

Sydney Buses also operate on a regular basis past the shopping mall, with 5 major bus routes servicing the center.[5]

MarketPlace will also be a short walking distance from Leichhardt North MLR station which is part of the extended Metro Light Rail line. The station will be completed in 2012,[6] and built on the old, now disused Rozelle Branchline of the Metropolitan Goods railway line.
