The centre was constructed at the former reservoir site on the corner of Yambil and Jondaryan Avenues between the CBD of Griffith and Griffin Plaza. Inside the centre, as you travel up the escalater, affixed to the walls are water meters that were found when the developers were draining the reservoir. The centre contains a 280+ seat fully enclosed foodcourt and basement carparking for around 500 cars.

On July 30, 2008, Griffith Central was awarded the "Business Appearance Award" from the Griffith City Council. Griffith Central was shortlisted in a group of 10 leading businesses in the region before taking the honours. Griffith Central's Centre Manager, Cheryl Wood and Administration Manager,Michaela Cangelli were on hand to collect their award from Griffith Mayor Dino Zappacosta. Fact|date=July 2008
