The Dawson County Courthouse is a historic two story redbrick courthouse building set on a raised basement of Bedford limestone which in turn is set upon a base of marble from Carthage, Missouri It is located at 700 North Washington Street, between 7th and 8th streets in Lexington, Dawson County, Nebraska. Designed by William F. Gernandt in the Beaux Arts style of architecture, it was built between 1913 and 1914. It is the second courthouse in Dawson County's history, replacing an earlier 1874 brick courthouse on the same site. Additions to the courthouse were made in 1955-1956 and in 1980. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 10, 1990 as a historic district. Included in the registration are the entire courthouse block, the additions as contributing properties and a Grand Army of the Republic statue as a contributing object.^[2][3]
