- Chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan
-
Chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans (CSPGs) are proteoglycans[1] consisting of a core protein and chondroitin sulfate. They are structural components of a variety of human tissues, for example of cartilage.
The following CSPGs have been identified:
- CSPG1 (aggrecan)
- CSPG2 (versican). Versican has chains of dermatan sulfate in addition to chondroitin sulfate.[2]
- CSPG3 (neurocan)
- CSPG4 (melanoma-associated chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan)
- CSPG5
- CSPG6 (SMC3, structural maintenance of chromosomes 3)
- CSPG7 (brevican)
- CSPG8 (CD44, cluster of differentiation 44)
