The building was designed by Oliver G. Traphagen and Francis Fitzpatrick. It is built in the Richardsonian Romanesque style, using brick and brownstone, and the design features towers, turrets, gables, and finials. The building is named after Chester Creek, which flows into Lake Superior near the building.[2]
