Mobile phone users must always enter area codes when dialing a fixed (landline) number.

Dialling into Sri Lanka

To dial into Sri Lanka from abroad callers must use the +94 aa o nnnnnn format where:

  • "+" is the international call prefix (usually 00).
  • "94" is Sri Lanka's country code.
  • "aa" represents the area code, or mobile operator code when contacting a mobile number (i.e. omitting the leading 0 used when calling inside Sri Lanka).
  • "o" represents the operator code for fixed (landline) numbers. For mobile phone numbers, this is a part of the main telephone number.
  • "nnnnnn" represent the main telephone number of six digits.
