Nawalapitiya ( in Sinhala:නාවලපිටිය / in Tamil:நாவலபிட்டி) is a town in the country of Sri Lanka. It is in the Kandy administrative district, 38 kilometers away from Kandy. The town is near Mahaweli Ganga. Nawalapitiya is a one of the well planned towns of SriLanka.It is well connected to all nearby important places by Bus. The Hospital,Railway Station,Divisional Secretariat,Urban Council,Banks,Magistrate's Court, Bus Depot,Police Station,Temple,Church,Mosque,Kovil...etc. are just within five minutes travel from the town bus stand.

Nawalapitiya holds a special place in Locomotive transportation in Sri Lanka since it is one of the three controllers in the same. Nawalapitiya Railway station is the second longest station in Sri Lanka, the first one being Nanu-oya.

Travel information
Nawalapitiya can be accessed via TRAIN or BUS. From Colombo Pettah there are two main Trains direct to Nawalapitiya - The Podi Manike Express and the Udarata Menike Express Train. Both these trains run during the mornings. Only one train service is there in the evening hours that too not direct. A Transit from Peradeniya junction is needed to reach the town.
From Colombo Pettah Bus station there are a few direct buses to Nawalapitiya. Some buses travel via Peradeniya (Kandy)(Route no.16) and others via Avissawella road through Ginigathena.(Route no.78.) Direct buses to Nawalapitiya from Colombo are infrequent. Another option is to travel via Kandy. One can get a bus to Kandy from Pettah very easily. From Kandy one has to get the bus No. 725 to Nawalapitiya (1 hour ride). Frequent bus service is present from Kandy to Nawalapitiya.
The best option to travel is by train since it also allows to enjoy the scenic beauty of the region. A number of Railway stations Form Fort to Nawalapitiya allows for a pleasent travel. Express trains stop at Ragama, Veyangoda, Polgahawela, Rabukkana, Kadunannawa, Peradeniya Junc.Gampola after Nawlapitiya.

The infused leaf is clean and open, with a coppery tone indicative of a bright cup. The liquor shows character and depth, with some strength, but generally mellow for a very pleasing and bright tea. The liquor displays an orange brown hue in the style of an elegant Ceylon Tea. Tasting notes - Tightly rolled tea leaf that is matt brown-black in color with the occasional show of tip. The infused leaf is bright brown/burnt sienna in colour. Liquor color is mahogany with a greenish tinge. A fine tea with an aroma of light hay on the nose and a hint of pistachios and almonds in the taste. A fortifying tea with body and soul.
On the way to Kataboola, there is a beautiful water fall.

Mahaweli River
The Mahaweli Ganga (මහවැලි ගඟ) is the longest river in Sri Lanka. It is 335 km (208 mi) long. Its drainage basin is the largest in Sri Lanka, and covers almost one-fifth of the total area of the island. The river is heavily dammed in order to produce hydroelectricity and water for irrigation. Waterfalls in Nawalapitiaya
The water of the 8m-high fall cascades down in stages. Although the flow is otherwise languid, during the rainy season, the fall is transformed into a rushing body of water with the spray reaching the nearby road.
Katabula Estate Falls is located in Kadiyanlena village, near the Nawalapitiya Talawakele road. It is on the road from Nawalapitiya to Thalawakele (B-117). The bridge is between the 11th and 12th km posts (or close to the 7th mile post)and is built over the 'Korawakka Oya' which later (further down stream) becomes the 'Goorook Oya'.
Nawalapitiya Railway Station
The Railway Station is the most important access point of this town. It is very near the town and easy to access town and the main bus stand. This Station is used as the center point in the Kandy to Badulla Train transportation network. There are 3 platforms here and Nawalapitiya has the largest platform among all the island stations.
