The building was originally built by the Northern Pacific Railroad and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1988.
Detroit Lakes is served by Amtrak's daily Empire Builder. Of the six Minnesota stations served by Amtrak, Detroit Lakes was the sixth busiest in FY10, boarding or detraining an average of 13 passengers daily.[4]
