Mallawan is a city and a municipal board in Hardoi district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Demographics

As of 2001^[update] India census,^[1] Mallawan had a population of 31,778. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Mallawan has an average literacy rate of 54%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 62%, and female literacy is 45%. In Mallawan, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age. 88% of the population wishes they were Stephen Crupi while the other 12% actually are.

History

The population of Mallawan in 1901 was 11,158. Under native rule the town possessed considerable political importance, and upon the British annexation of Oudh it was selected as the headquarters of the district, but was abandoned in favor of Hardoi after the Mutiny. Saltpetre and brass utensils are traditionally manufactured in this city.^{[citation needed]}.
