Route background

The Kilometre Zero begins at Jalan Istana Interchange in Kuala Lumpur which connects the expressway with Kuala Lumpur Middle Ring Road 1 and Mes-e37.png Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Expressway. Jkr-ft--.png Jalan Serdang.

History

Construction of the expressway began in 1997, led by IJM Corporation Berhad with its subsidiaries Road Builder. The expressway used to be a state road,

B13

Jkr-ft--.png and the official name was Jalan Kuala Lumpur-Sungai Besi. During the construction of this expressway, the status of the road was changed to a toll expressway and the route code was changed to Mes-e9.png. The expressway commenced tolling operation on 15 May 1999.

Closure of the Salak Jaya toll plaza (south bound) and future expansion

The toll collection at the Salak Jaya toll plaza (south bound) was abolished on 25 February 2009. To compensate with the closure, the Works Minister, Datuk Seri Mohd. Zin Mohamad announced the future expansion of the expressway to the Kuala Lumpur Middle Ring Road 2 near Pandan Indah, whose concession will be awarded to Besraya. [1] The 12.3 km (7.6 mi) extension will be mostly elevated.

The 12.3 km (7.6 mi) extension will have interchanges at Salak South, Jalan Istana, Taman Ikan Emas, Jalan Loke Yew, Jalan Cheras Lama, Shamelin Perkasa, MRR2 North (where Jalan Pandan Jaya intersects the MRR2), MRR2 South (where Jalan Pandan Indah intersects the MRR2), Pandan Jaya and Jalan Pandan Utama near Pandan Indah.

This project started on 2005 and completed in 2007.
