2007–Personal details Born December 7, 1966 Political party Republican Spouse(s) Shannon Profession Businessman, Real Estate Broker Religion Episcopal Doug Holder (born 7 December 1966) is a Sarasota, Florida businessman and Republican politician who serves as the District 70 Representative in the House of Representatives of the U.S. state of Florida. He was first elected to the Florida House in 2006 and was re-elected in 2008. He is the vice chair for the Committee on Tourism & Trade.
Holder was born in Marietta, Georgia. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Middle Tennessee State University in 1990 and moved to Florida in 1997. While at the University, he orchestrated a campaign visit to the campus by then President George Bush. After leaving college, Holder went to work in the family business. He lived in West Palm Beach, where he invested money from the sale of his family's business in real estate.[1]
In 2005, he moved to Sarasota County and narrowly won his first legislative race in 2006. During his first term, he hewed closely to the party line. In 2008, he was opposed by Democrat Sam M. Rosenfeld from Siesta Key,[2] and won with 61% of the vote.[3]
