Baxley has served twice in the Florida House. He first served from 2000-2007 (serving as Speaker pro tempore from 2006 to June 12, 2007)[1]. After being subject to term limits, Baxley ran again in 2009 (the Florida Constitution allows term-limited legislators to run again after one term) and regained his seat.
Baxley is considered a social conservative, and served as executive director of the Christian Coalition of Florida for 18 months ending in June 2009.[2] Baxley was involved in the Terri Schiavo case, as well as gun rights issues.[3]
Baxley also served as Mayor/Commissioner of Belleview, Florida, from 1982 to 1983.
He received his Bachelors degree from the Florida State University in 1974. In addition, he received a degree in Funeral Services. It should also be noted he lives in Ocala, Florida with his family.
