Civil Aviation Flight University of China 中国民用航空飞行学院 Established 1956 Type National Admin. staff 1100 Students 10000 Location Guanghan, Sichuan, People's Republic of China Campus 1066.72 hectares Website www.cafuc.edu.cn/ Civil Aviation Flight University of China (CAFUC; Chinese: 中国民用航空飞行学院) is the only full-time regular institution of higher education for civil aviation pilots, as well as technicians of other civil aviation specialties and high-quality applied professionals in engineering, management and arts required by national economy of China. It is under the direct jurisdiction of China Civil Aviation Authority (CAAC).
History
The university was created in 1956 by the predecessor of the China Civil Aviation Authority (CAAC). Its headquarters is in Guanghan City, Sichuan Province, CAFUC, covering a total area of over 15500mu, has four flight training sub-colleges in Xinjin, Guanghan, Luoyang and Mianyang and two air terminals in Luoyang and Suining.
In 1989 the college expanded its flight training fleet importing 20 Socata TB-20 aircraft powered by Lycoming 6 cylinder IO-540 engines. Additional TB-200 aircraft were added to the fleet as well as Piper Seminole twin engine aircraft. Further aircraft included over 100 Cessna 172R aircraft and additional Piper Seminole aircraft. They fly over 180,000 flight hours per year. They now operate over 300 single engine Lycoming powered training aircraft. The "CAFUC" is now the worlds largest flight training institution - and further expansion is planned for 2011
It has set up 7 colleges, including College of Flight Technology, College of Air Traffic Control, College of Aviation Engineering, College of Air Transport Management, College of Computer Science, College of Foreign Languages, and College of Cabin Attendants, Sports Department, Simulator Training Center, Aero Engine Maintenance Training Center, Aircraft Repair Plant, Sanxing General Airline Co., Ltd., and Chinese Civil Aviation Scientific Research Base.
CAFUC has more than 8,000 full-time students. It has formed an educational pattern of “flight orientation and comprehensive development” and become the largest “university of civil aviation” in Asia.
