(1998)"Cowboy Style" is a song by Kylie Minogue, from her 1997 album Impossible Princess, released as a single in August 1998. The song was released by Mushroom only in Australia because the record deal with Deconstruction for the UK and Europe ended after her previous single "Breathe".
The song was produced by Brothers in Rhythm and is basically about meeting Stéphane Sednaoui, her boyfriend at the time she wrote the song.
The song was the final single release from Impossible Princess and peaked at number 39 in Australia. The single includes the rare track "Love Takes Over Me", which was previously released on the 7" single of "Some Kind of Bliss" only.
"Cowboy Style" is regarded as being one of Minogue's rarest singles (the other one being "GBI: German Bold Italic" featuring Japanese DJ Towa Tei).

Music video
The music video for "Cowboy Style" was taped during a sound check at one of the "Intimate and Live" shows. While the original performance on the tour was performed live, the music video was dubbed to include the studio version audio instead of the live vocals. The video wasn't released worldwide, and was only shown in Australia and New Zealand, because her label Mushroom released through Australia and New Zealand by copyright laws. The video, however, was available though iTunes in Australia and on the CD single.
Critical response
Chris True from Allmusic, had said that the review threw the album that it is "stronger in a natural way". He had highlighted the song for her 1998 album Impossible Princess.[1] Slant Magazine's Sal Cinquemani described the track as having "a tribal percussion break and a string quartet that sounds more Celtic than Country (but is effective nonetheless)."[2]
Live performances
Kylie performed the song on the following concert tours:
- Intimate and Live Tour
- KylieFever2002 (performed as a mash up with "Double Dutch Bus" and "The Real Slim Shady")
- Showgirl: The Homecoming Tour
