"Word Is Out" is a pop-jackswing song written by English duo Stock and Waterman for Kylie Minogue's fourth album "Let's Get to It" (1991). It was produced by Stock and Waterman, and received mixed reception from music critics. The song was released as the first single in the summer of 1991 (see 1991 in music) and was a top twenty hit in the United Kingdom, reaching number sixteen - ending Minogue's unprecedented run of consecutive top 10 hits. The song was a hit in Australia, with the more laid back Summer Breeze Mix as the main mix, peaking at number ten, becoming Minogue's tenth single to chart within the top ten. The Summer Breeze Mix received a UK release on a one-sided limited edition 12" Vinyl single which had an engraved autograph on the b-side, making it highly collectable for fans.

The music video, directed by James LeBon was filmed in London's famous Camden market and featured British television presenter Davina McCall as one of Minogue's dancers. It caused controversy due to Minogue's risqué clothing and sexy image which depicted Kylie and her dancers as prostitutes. This shocked many critics and parents despite being a progression on the more adult imagery and outfits in Kylie's previous four videos.

Fans received the single gratefully, given the wait, and were moving along fairly comfortably with Kylie's image changes at this point. Her next singles, however, did benefit from the promotion and numerous TV appearances she made around this time.
