Moycullen (official name: Maigh Cuilinn, Plain of Holly, or Plain of Cullen (a local giant) is a suburban village in County Galway, Ireland, about 10 km (7 mi) north west of Galway city. It is located near Lough Corrib, on the N59 road to Oughterard and Clifden in Connemara. Although nominally part of the Gaeltacht (Irish speaking region), Moycullen is still an Irish speaking community though this is on the way out. Moycullen is now a relatively prosperous and young satellite town of Galway with most residents commuting to the city for work, school, and commercial reasons.

Sport

It is home to one of the most successful basketball clubs in Ireland and also has thriving football, hurling and handball clubs.

Moycullen Gaelic football team won the Intermediate Club football championship on the 17 February 2008 at Croke Park, going on a 26 game winning streak in the process.

The Moycullen Mens U20 Basketball team won the U20 National Cup in January 2008.The Moycullen Senior Mens Basketball team won the Senior National Cup in January 2009. They compete in the national Super League.

A number of handballers have won All-Ireland titles.. Among them The great Handball Mulkerrins
