Located on Long Island in the Town of Babylon, the population of the CDP was 16,572 at the 2000 census. The area is served by the Amityville Postal District, the Amityville Union Free School District, the Copiague Postal District, and the Copiague Union Free School District. This area is populated with 89% African American,4% Hispanics,4% Jamaicans, and 3% other.

North Amityville is located at 40°42′1″N 73°24′46″W / 40.70028°N 73.41278°W (40.700143, -73.412803)[1].
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 2.4 square miles (6.2 km2), all land.
Demographics of the CDP
As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 16,572 people, 5,045 households, and 3,460 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 6,812.6 per square mile (2,633.1/km²). There were 5,308 housing units at an average density of 2,182.1/sq mi (843.4/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 18.7% White, 68.7% African American, 1.1% Native American, 1.0% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 6.7% from other races, and 4.8% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 13.5% of the population. It is one of two majority African-American communities in Suffolk County, the other being Wyandanch.
There were 5,045 households out of which 33.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.5% were married couples living together, 25.6% had a female household with no husband present, and 31.4% were non-families. 25.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.24 and the average family size was 3.84.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 29.8% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 29.3% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 11.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 82.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 76.3 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $45,084, and the median income for a family was $49,901. Males had a median income of $35,558 versus $30,010 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $16,826. About 8.1% of families and 10.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 11.1% of those under age 18 and 11.9% of those age 65 or over.
