On the south bank of the Narmada, it contains one of the twelve great lingas of Shiva.[1]
Demographics
As of 2001[update] India census[2], Omkareshwar had a population of 6616. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Omkareshwar has an average literacy rate of 52%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 63%, and female literacy is 39%. In Omkareshwar, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age.
