Kukshi is a Tehsil in Dhar district in the southwest region of Madhya Pradesh, India.

Location

Kukshi is in the Nimar (Nemar) region in the southwest region of Madhya Pradesh. It is 350 km from Bhopal and 170 km from Indore. It lies west of Narmada River valley and south of the Vindhyas. Kukshi is the biggest Tehsil of Dhar district. It is bounded by the districts of Dhar to the north, Khargone (West Nimar) to the northeast, Manawar to the east, Barwani to the southeast, Alirajpur and Jhabua to the west.

Kukshi has a subtropical climate. It has a hot dry summer (April-June) followed by monsoon rains (July-September) and a cool dry winter. The average rainfall is about 45". The temperature varies from around 10 degree C in winter to 45 degree C in summers.

People

Kukshi is inhabited by people of different communities and religions. Most of the population is dependent on farming and trading. Total population of Kukshi town, according to 2001 census, is 24,413 (12,414 males and 11,899 females).

Market

Kukshi is one of the biggest towns of the Dhar district. It falls in the Maharashtra cotton belt and hence provides very good business opportunities. The market is flourishing and changing the face of the town very quickly. It also provides a trading opportunity to Bhils who live in the periphery areas and come for their shopping needs in haat. The main businesses in town are jewellery and cloth shops.
