below =California 's 5th State Senate District is one of 40 Senate Districts. It is currently represented by DemocratMichael Machado of Linden.District Profile
The 5th District covers much of the Sacramento River Delta, including parts of urban Sacramento, the San Francisco North Bay, and the Central Valley.
Yolo County is entirely in the district, along with the delta area of Sacramento County (including Isleton, part of Laguna, and Walnut Grove) and most of Solano County (including the cities of Dixon, Elmira, Fairfield, Suisun City, and Vacaville).
The Central Valley area includes most of San Joaquin County, including the cities of Stockton, Tracy, Lathrop, and Manteca, and most of August, all of Country Club and French Camp, most of Garden Acres, and all of Kennedy, Lincoln Village, and Taft Mosswood.
Despite the Democratic registration advantage, the 5th is usually one of the most competitive Senate districts in the state. In the 2004 election, for example, incumbent Democratic Senator
Michael Machado only received 52% of the vote.Election Results

2001 Redistricting
The 5th is perhaps one of the most altered districts of the 2001 redistricting. In the 1990s, the district included most of Sacramento County south of the American River and San Joaquin County north of Tracy. In 2001, most of the rural areas in both Sacramento and San Joaquin Counties were removed and Yolo County and portions of Solano County added.
