The area was historically owned by the Crawley Family, owners of the now demolished Stockwood House and Stockwood Park. The area is mainly residential with estates such as Vauxhall Park and Devon Road containing a large number of houses. The area also includes the IBC factory and the now demonished Vauxhall plant. This area is to being redeveloped into new housing, light industry and a lesiure facility called Napier Park[citation needed].
The area is also home to one of Luton's High schools, Ashcroft High School and several primary schools including Crawley Green Infants and Wenlock Church of England Juniors.

Crawley Green is part of the Crawley ward which is represented by Cllr Mel Cato (Labour) and Cllr David Franks(Liberal Democrats) The ward forms part of the parliamentary constituency of Luton South, and the MP is Gavin Shuker (Labour). Crawley is within the East of England (European Parliament constituency).
