Uses
Copper azide is very explosive and can be used in pyrotechnics.
Preparation
Copper azide can be prepared by a metathesis reaction between copper(II) nitrate (Cu(NO3)2) and sodium azide.
- Cu(NO3)2 + 2 NaN3 → Cu(N3)2 + 2 NaNO3
