Preparation

Copper azide can be prepared by a metathesis reaction between copper(II) nitrate (Cu(NO₃)₂) and sodium azide.

Cu(NO₃)₂ + 2 NaN₃ → Cu(N₃)₂ + 2 NaNO₃
