- Charlie Is My Darling (film)
-
Charlie Is My Darling, directed by Peter Whitehead, was the first documentary film about The Rolling Stones. The movie was shot during the band's two-day tour of Ireland on 3 and 4 September 1965, and was completed in the spring of 1966.[1] It received only spotty release in 1966 before being withdrawn, and has seldom been seen since then.[2]
The film, 50 minutes in duration, contains a few concert clips with the video and audio portions out of sync, interviews with all of the band members and various fans waiting in line, views of the band traveling on a train and getting on/off the plane as well as rehearsing in a studio setting. An interview with Brian Jones revolves around the idea of life after the Stones, to which he responses he would do "something artistically and far more practical things" and then describes a surreal film project where one of the character is love itself; and is also notable for his candid view of marriage "The whole prospect of marriage rather frightens me... its like signing a contract...you are signing a part of you away, but in marriage you are signing your life away."
Incomplete songs as listed at the end of the film are "Get Off of My Cloud", "Heart of Stone", "Play with Fire", "I'm Alright", "The Last Time", and "Maybe It's Because I'm a Londoner".
