List of minor Maryland state highways

In Maryland's state highway system, every state-maintained road is assigned a route number in the state's primary numbering system. This is due to the fact that Maryland does not have a secondary system as do other states. As such, the system contains several routes which are either short connector roads or short former alignments of other routes. Many of these routes are listed below.

Route 5 was routed around Hughesville via a bypass to alleviate a major bottleneck for through traffic traveling from the surrounding counties, as the intersection of Route 5 and MD 231 is essentially a crossroads for the Southern Maryland region. Route 231 heads east into Calvert County, while north on Route 5/Route 625 heads to Waldorf, Charles County and south leads to St. Mary's County. Maryland Route 715, also known as Short Lane, is a Harford County road, connecting U.S. Route 40 to to the Maryland Boulevard gate of Aberdeen Proving Ground.
