The PlayStation Official App is a PlayStation focused mobile application for the iOS and Android mobile operating systems developed by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. Version 1.0 of the application was released on January 11, 2011 for the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands in its initial release though Sony plans to release than in other European countries when the application is updated to version 1.1.[1] Currently the application can be run on devices running iOS 4 and above or Android 1.6 and above.[2] The application is targeted mainly at European PlayStation users as it will only be released in European countries. The application is meant to be used only to keep track of news as well as their PlayStation Network accounts and will not have any gaming functionality.[3]

Functions

The application allows users to check their PlayStation Network trophies as well as check their friends' online status on the PlayStation Network. It also provides a news feed regarding news involving the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and PlayStation 3 gaming systems, in addition to being able to read post comments on the European PlayStation Blog. The application also allows users to watch any videos embedded in the news posts via the application on their mobile device. Users are also able to share news or products on their Facebook, Twitter or email accounts.[2]
