- Colombia and Florida placed for the third consecutive time.
- Panama, Paraguay, Spain and Venezuela had all placed the year before as well.
- The rest of the placing nations/states (Arizona, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico) had all placed in 1983.
- Panama achieved its highest placement (third) ever. They would again match this placement in 1986, 1989 and 2007.
- Arizona achieved its highest placement ever.
- Costa Rica achieved its highest placement up to that point.
- Venezuela became the first defending territory to place.
