Trivia
- Uruguay earned its first win ever. The win is still counted in Uruguay's tally, despite Giannina Silva's dethroning.
- Guatemala matched its best placement since winning in 1993. Heidi Garcia would later go on to give Guatemala its second titleholder, making Guatemala only the fifth territory (after the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Brazil and Puerto Rico) to have two titleholders.
- Panama matched its highest placement (second runner-up), last achieved in 1989. This was the fourth time Panama was named second runner-up, making Panama the territory with the most third place delegates. Mexico would later tie this record in 2010.
- Northern-French Catalonia placed for the first time.
- Dominican Republic and Guatemala also placed in 2006.
- Panama last placed in 1996.
- Argentina and Costa Rica last placed in 2002.
- Venezuela last placed in 2003.
- Uruguay last placed in 2004.
- Ecuador last placed in 2005.
- A slight format change occurred with only ten semifinalists being called out, like in the 1980s. In 2006, 12 had been called out, a format the pageant would return to in 2008.
